The music industry not only entertains us with music, but also keeps us entertained with fun events and exciting news. March has been no exception, and while the real March Madness may be happening on a court elsewhere, there's a little madness happening in our world as well.
Noteworthy news from this month:
Here's something we never thought we would hear: Roy Orbison and Buddy Holly will be touring together in 2019. You read that right!
After much success of last year's Roy Orbison's holographic tour, Base Hologram has created the first ever Buddy Holly hologram. The duo will be touring the UK later this year, complete with back up singers and a full band. Ticket sale dates are not set, but this is one show we definitely have on our radar for 2019. More details can be found on the Music Week site.
Almost (we said almost) as shocking as an Orbison/Holly tour - a Jonas Brothers reunion. Nick, Kevin and Joe released "Sucker" on March 1st, their first single together in six years. Rumor has it that a tour is forthcoming and we know many a 20-something (and yes, even the tweens and teens are getting excited!) that are glued to social media waiting for that announcement. The reunion does beg two questions however - where is the Bonus Jonas? And would we be remiss if we didn't comment on the confusingly colorful new style - or has enough been said about that already?
The First and the Worst benefit show took place this past week at the City Winery in Nashville. Country music was well represented with performances by Kix Brooks, Luke Dick and others, the highlight of the evening was sending Laura Veltz home with the "Crappy" trophy for her never released track, "Little Dipper". Just edging out "TTYL", and "I Have No Neck", this non-hit compared a woman to chewing tobacco.
The annual event benefiting Music Health Alliance has raised over 50 years since it's inception 5 years ago.
On a side note, I first met the talented Laura Veltz through her parents, Ken and Jeannie Veltz - a crazy talented wonderful couple that have had quite an adventurous life. But that story may be for another blog.
Upcoming blogs will feature software options for tour managers, tour trucking for music festivals, Christian Music artists. Is there a particular topic you'd like to read about? Drop us a comment and let us know!
